Notorious Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff is still wheeling and dealing — even from behind bars.
Madoff, who was jailed in 2009 after admitting to turning his wealth management business into a massive Ponzi scheme, has been raking in profits after monopolizing the commissary packets of Swiss Miss hot chocolate and reselling them in the prison yard, reports the New York Post.
The tasty morsel of gossip was revealed though a new podcast series named, “Ponzi Supernova” that dishes on Madoff’s time in prison and how he pulled off his $65 billion fraud. It also claims that Madoff is a “hero” in Butner prison, North Carolina — where he’s currently serving his 150 year sentence — and that other inmates frequently (perhaps inadvisably) turn to him for financial advice.
Last month, educator and author of “How to Drink Like a Billionaire“, Mark Oldman — who bought at auction several bottles of wine that were seized from Madoff — cracked open one of the bottles. It was thought to be “far more vibrant than expected.” [NYP]
