Socialite, philanthropist, businesswoman and political dabbler Georgette Mosbacher has just listed her Met-facing, full-floor, Fifth Avenue co-op for $29.5 million. And it turns out her apartment is just as big as her resume
Mosbacher moved to the apartment at 1020 Fifth Avenue in 1992. According to the New York Times she restored many of the architectural details, like the painted coat of arms that graces the grand salon, the oak floors, ornate doors and three wood-burning fireplaces.
“The place was a wreck,” she told the Times. “I gutted it to the girders.”
Beyond the restored details, the three bedroom spread also comes with a private elevator landing, 20-foot-high ceilings, a huge crystal chandelier, a gourmet kitchen, a formal dining room, a library, a private bedroom wing, marble bathrooms and some very elaborate ceilings.
Mosbacher reportedly shares the apartment with a live-in housekeeper and her two fantastically-named Cavalier King Charles spaniels, Guinevere and Galahad.
John Burger of Brown Harris Stevens has the listing.
