They already provide retreats for the rich and famous, but Airbnb is getting ready to make some even more luxurious moves.
The company — who very recently supplied Lady Gaga’s Superbowl accommodation — is about cough up around $200 million to acquire Luxury Retreats, an Airbnb-style service that focuses on high-end homes, reports Tech Crunch.
According to their website, Luxury Retreats — which LLNYC previously described as “an Airbnb for the 1 percent” — currently have over 3,300 professionally inspected villas available to rent. That includes a villa owned by Francis Ford-Coppola in Puglia, Italy; Richard Branson’s Necker Island; and Donna Karen’s Caribbean guest villa.
“We take this approach that no matter where you go in the world, you’ve got this set of eyes that’s making sure each step of your vacation is being executed as well as possible,” Joe Poulin, the CEO and founder of Luxury Retreats, told LLNYC in 2015.
