Jürgen Friedrich, a former top executive at fashion brand Esprit, has just listed his condo at the Plaza hotel for $39.5 million, per city records.
Friedrich, who is from Germany, joined Esprit in 1976 and he led the company’s European operations until 1997. He has since retired from the company and is currently listed on Esprit’s website as a “non-executive director.” In 2008, Forbes estimated his net worth to be $1 billion, but he hasn’t been on the billionaire’s list since then.
This 4,284-square-foot Plaza apartment has 14-foot ceilings, three bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms and was designed by architect S.R. Gambrel Inc, who supposedly used “artisans who rebuilt Windsor Castle” to redesign the apartment. They gave it hand-drawn plaster ceilings, oak paneling, leather walls and antique mantles. Friedrich paid a little over $25 million for the unit in 2007. Melanie Lazenby and Dina Lewis of Douglas Elliman have the listing.
Friedrich also owns a massive estate in the Hamptons, which he had listed on the market in 2015 for $45 million (it no longer appears to be for sale, but is available as a summer rental for $1.15 million-a-month).
Esprit’s site notes that Friedrich has retired in Switzerland.
