Queen Elizabeth II is always sporting a handbag to match her monochromatic ensembles, but why doesn’t she have one of her staff members hold it for her? Apparently because Her Royal Highness is using it to send secret signals to her staff.
Royal historian Hugo Vickers told People, “It would be very worrying if you were talking to the Queen and saw the handbag move from one hand to the other.” This would signal that the Queen has finished talking with you. But the signal is performed so carefully that the other party would not instantly realize it. Vickers added, “It would be done very nicely. Someone would come along and say, ‘Sir, the Archbishop of Canterbury would very much like to meet you.'”
If the Queen puts her handbag on the dinner table, it signifies her desire to end the event within the next five minutes. Additionally, if she puts her purse on the floor, she’s not entertained by the conversation and would very much like it to end. The most alarming sign is the spinning of her ring, which signifies her urgent need to be saved straightaway.
Her Royal Majesty certainly has a lot of tricks up her sleeve. Or shall we say, in her bag. [People]
