Katharine Hepburn’s Connecticut estate sells for $11.5M

Update 8/30: The main property of the original Hepburn family estate was recently lowered from the original asking price of $14.8 million in 2014, to $11.8 million. It was sold at $11.5 million by New York developer Frank Sciame, according to the Post. The significantly smaller second parcel of this estate is still available at the asking price of $5.88 million.

The Old Saybrook, Connecticut estate built for Katharine Hepburn and her family in 1939 is back on market as two separate lots asking a total of $17.7 million.

The main property at 10 Mohegan Avenue — which was used as the Hepburn summer retreat for 65 years — is asking $11.8 million ($3 million less than it was asking in 2014) and includes a six bedroom, 8,400-square-foot home that was renovated in 2005. The house is set on 1.5 acres, overlooks a private pond and golf course and includes 220 feet of Long Island Sound frontage with a private dock.

6 Mohegan Avenue is the cheaper of the two lots at a pinch under $5.9 million and includes a three-bedroom beach house that was built on a separate adjacent parcel in 2015. This parcel comes with four large decks overlooking the Long Island Sound, Connecticut River, a pond and golf course.

The property — owned by Frank J. Sciame, Jr., founder and president of Sciame Construction Company — borders more than three acres of open space that was donated to a land trust by the estate of Katharine Hepburn.

Colette Harron of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty Essex has both listings.

In 2014 Hepburn’s former brownstone at 244 East 49th Street hit the market as a $22,000 per month rental, much less than the $27,500 it wanted in 2010.
