Sean Lennon says goodbye to his giant, sick tree

Here comes the sun … Sean Lennon’s finally chopped down his disruptive tree.

The son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono has settled a two-year long, $10 million lawsuit with his neighbors (who also happen to be Marisa Tomei’s parents) over a rotting tree on his property that the Tomeis claim caused their West Village townhouse structural damage.

Though the details of the settlement are confidential, Gary Tomei told the Post that the 60-foot ailanthus came down last month — but not before it weaved its way into his basement and damaged the foundation of his house. Tomei is rebuilding his door, stoop and balustrades.

Lennon was ordered by a judge in September to tear the tree down, but he appealed the decision, saying that the Tomeis should alter their entryway to accommodate the tree. This line of defense apparently did not work so well, and Lennon dropped the appeal.

Lennon bought his home at 153 West 13th Street for $9.5 million in 2008. The Tomeis have owned No. 155 since 1994. [NYP]
