You can visit New York’s Gilded Age with this new app

Though you would be forgiven for thinking we are living in the Gilded Age now in New York (hello Billionaire’s Row!), the Museum of the City of New York has just launched a new app that can bring you back to the actual era.

Called “A Walk Through Gilded New York,” the app provides an audio tour (done by actress Grace Grummer) plus images of fifteen Gilded Age hotspots, like Tiffany & Co.’s original headquarters, the sites of Siegel-Cooper and Lord & Taylor department stores, the Metropolitan Opera House, the Morgan Library, the William K. Vanderbilt house, Delmonico’s Restaurant and the Plaza. In total, the app includes two hours of content and spans the area from Union Square to East 105th Street.

The Museum of the City of New York has a longstanding “Gilded New York” exhibit that displays paintings and objects from that time.  [DNA Info]
