There’s nothing new about Chanel selling ridiculously overpriced and completely unnecessary items for Kim Kardashian to adorn herself with. But now, one such product is causing quite a bit of anger online.

The item is a boomerang, which is currently being sold for the perfectly reasonable price of $1,325 on Chanel’s site. After prominent makeup artist Jeffree Star shared a picture of his own boomerang on Twitter and Instagram (the caption reads: “Having so much fun with my new @Chanel boomerang”), users accused the luxury brand of appropriating Indigenous Australian culture.

“I am from Australia and I am offended that a company would make a joke out of something that was used as a weapon for survival” one commenter wrote.

According to the Guardian, the price of the boomerang is about equal to 10 percent of the annual income of most aboriginal Australians. Chanel told the Guardian in a statement that they are “extremely committed to respecting all cultures, and regrets that some may have felt offended.” [Guardian]
