Japanese real estate billionaire Katsumi Tada has just listed one of two apartments he owns in Trump International Tower at 1 Central Park West for $30 million.
Tada listed this unit along with an adjoining unit on the 47th floor in May 2016 for $40 million, though that price has since been lowered to $34.5 million. He paid a little more than $26 million for both units in 2008 under his company name, Daisho Development.
This unit is 4,415 square feet, and has four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. It is decorated in a very Trump-like way, with “rich marble flooring, extravagant black lacquered and gold-leaf gilded doors and moldings,” “parquet de Versailles wood floors” that were salvaged from a French chateau and a master bathroom “so glamorous you would think it only existed in the movies or at the Duomo in Florence.” Of course, there are also lovely Central Park views. Howard Margolis, Jeff Adler and Marie Espinal of Douglas Elliman have the listing.
According to Forbes, Tada is worth $1.7 billion. He is known for taking risks buying lavish apartments, and made headlines in 2015 when he sold a penthouse he owned in Singapore for a $15.8 million loss.
In March, a fire broke out on the 47th floor of the building where these units are located, after machinery involved in construction caught fire.
