Fox New’s host Kimberly Guilfoyle raised eyebrows last week when she began peddling rumors to the press that she was in the running to replace White House press secretary Sean Spice. Now, we don’t want to sound cynical, but it looks increasingly like: A. Guilfoyle was never being seriously considered; and B. She was making a rather savvy publicity play.
“I’m a patriot, and it would be an honor to serve the country,” Guilfoyle said last week in response to the rumors. “I think it’d be a fascinating job … you need someone really determined and focused, a great communicator in there with deep knowledge to be able to handle that position.”
Now, the Washington Examiner, reports that President Trump was less than thrilled that Guilfoyle had nominated herself as Spicer’s replacement. Trump was reportedly “furious” about Guilfoyle’s statements.
“Trump gets angry every time he sees those stories,” an “insider” told the paper. “He believes that she is using him to better her own situation.”
In response, both Guilfoyle and Fox have back peddled on her statements.
“Kimberly is a valued member of the FOX News primetime lineup, and is under a long term contract with the network,” the network said in a statement.
“As I stated in the interview, I really love what I do and my job co-hosting ‘The Five’ is tough to beat,” Guilfoyle added through a spokesperson Tuesday.
