Melania Trump wears a $51K coat during her trip to Italy

As if the similarities between Melania Trump and Marie Antoinette weren’t uncomfortable enough, the First Lady arrived in Taormina, Italy at the G7 summit today wearing a $51,500 floral coat.

To put that in perspective, the average income for an American family in 2015 was about $56,000, according to the U.S. Census.

Trump wore the “3D Flower Jacket” to go sightseeing with the other spouses of world leaders at the summit. It was designed by Dolce & Gabbana, which has been very vocal in its support for the First Lady wearing its clothes (this coat was no exception, Stefano Gabbana captioned an image of Melania in the coat “THANK YOU”).

It is unclear whether the coat was a gift of the designers, which would mean it would go to the National Archives afterward (something that is typically done for gowns worn to state dinners or other official events), or Melania just decided to buy it herself.
