A Dutch chef trying to serve up the most expensive burger in the world created a $2,300 feast, but alas, fell short of becoming the record holder.
The creation of chef Diego Buik, who works at the South of Houston restaurant in The Hague, Netherlands, consists of Japanese dry-aged Wagyu beef, Oosterschelde lobster infused with Dutch gin, foie gras, white truffles, Remeker cheese, Iberian ham, French lettuce, Japanese fruit tomatoes, and caviar.
The sauce, according to Business Insider, is equally as lavish. It’s reportedly made with 35 lobsters (!), Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, Madagascan vanilla, saffron, and Japanese soy sauce. But where’s the gold leaf, I hear you cry? Have no fear, it covers the saffron brioche bun.
Although Buik hoped to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records, he failed. The most expensive burger in the world sells for $5,000 at Juicys Outlaw Grill in Oregon.
Perhaps Buik should have included a few more lobsters.
