What do you get when you combine a billionaire, his mega yacht and the Statue of Liberty? Seething tourists, it would appear.
The billionaire in question is Russian-American oil tycoon Eugene Shvidler. His yacht, Le Grand Bleu, has been anchored in front of Lady Liberty for the past two months, according to the New York Post, and it’s reportedly blocking views.
“It’s the people’s statue versus a person’s private boat,” said Roland Lewis, president of the Waterfront Alliance, to the Post. “That boat is right there obstructing the parade of excursion boats that go out there to visit the statue.”
Shvidler is thought to have been gifted the vessel — thought to be one of the world’s largest private yachts — from his pal Roman Abramovich, the mega-mansion-wanting Russian oligarch.
One sailor who spotted a woman drinking coffee on the boat told the Post, “I was just like, ‘Oh, my God. You have a private patio in front of the Statue of Liberty where your multitude of servants brings you coffee.'”
