UES heads to the LES for a good cause: PHOTOS

Last week, more than 100 came out to support Global Strays, a charity founded by young New Yorkers Elizabeth Shafiroff and Lindsey Spielfogel. Elizabeth is, of course, the daughter of noted society philanthropist Jean Shafiroff.

The charity focuses on improving the lives of dogs and cats in developing nations and its inaugural fundraiser drew and uptown crowd to an unlikely Lower East Side’s Rumpus Room — the same venue infamous club kid Michael Alig hosts his weekly Outrage parties.

The evening was introduced by emcee Rita Cosby and introduced co-founders Elizabeth Shafiroff and Lindsey Spielfogel. Shafiroff said that a recent trip to Nicaragua left her “horrified with the treatment of animals,” spurring her to start the charity.

Other guests included Tomaczek Bednareck, Craig Dix, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Michele Herbert, Carl and Valerie Kempner, Rory Lipman, Dimitra Molossi, Maggie Norris, Sammie Jack Pressman, Victor de Souza, Betsy Spielfogal, Ike Ude, Martin & Jean Shafiroff.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to partner organizations in Central America, as well as Social Tees Animal Rescue Foundation, an organization that rescues animals from high kill shelters across the United States.
