The Lower East Side isn’t known for prudishness. But somehow Ian Schrager’s newest luxury hotel has managed to alarm the neighborhood’s more delicate constituency.
Some locals complain that guests of the new Public hotel are going at it with abandon and in full view of their neighbors.
“Guys are together, girls and girls are together. They don’t even pull the shades down,” Leonor Fernandez, 68, told the New York Post.
“You see them having sex all the time, hands on the window,” Melissa Santos, 26, added. “Not like I’m a peeping Tom, but from the corner of my eye, you can see this going on four times a week.”
The 28-story, 376-room hotel on Chrystie Street has attracted a trendy, young and affluent crowd since it opened. The building boasts some of the best views in the neighborhood — views that are apparently a real turn on for some.
“He got up, and he was standing there” masturbating, tenant leader Debbie Gonzales, 64, says of one hotel guest spotted through a window.
