Third time’s the charm over at McCarren Hotel & Pool on North 12th St.
After two failed attempts at fine dining in their main restaurant, Empire Capital, who bought the hotel for $20 million last year, decided to team up with chef Hong Thaimee to try something new — an upscale Thai restaurant with a an eight-course tasting menu.
Thaimee, featured on Iron Chef in 2013, owns two restaurants in East Village; Ngam and Thaimee Box. This hotel restaurant, named Thaimee, will feature a special tasting menu twice a week as well as a more casual a la carte menu inspired by the chef’s hometown, Chiang Mai in Thailand.
The restaurant will be open all day every day, including weekend buffet brunches with standard American fare and Thai touches. It is scheduled to open in September, according to NY Eater.
The entire hotel will be getting a makeover in hopes of a higher success rate than what its seen in the past. A new cocktail menu is underway, as well as a plan for spontaneous and trendy pop-ups on the roof, like a sushi club.
