It’s been nine years since Victoria Beckham became a fashion designer, and now her husband, David Beckham, is also working in the industry.
Mr. Beckham is a part-owner of menswear brand Kent & Curwen. At the brand’s celebration at Saks Fifth Avenue last night, he told the Observer, “When we started the licensing company, we wanted to bring something like Kent & Curwen into it, and be able to rebrand it, and bring a great creative director in who I had to work well with.”
We imagine attending his wife’s shows at New York Fashion Week over the years has provided insight for him. “When I’m involved in something, I like to be very involved—to a fault. I probably annoy [creative director] Daniel [Kearns] from time to time, but I was excited about this. It is very British, and the fact that we can go back to 1926, and dip into the archives and find out exactly what the brand is all about is what got me really excited about this.”
Kent & Curwen’s new collection is available at pop-up shops at five Saks Fifth Avenue stores starting today through September 25th. The brand appropriately fits David Beckham’s aesthetic, with pieces like rich knit sweaters, rugby shirts, fitted trousers and bomber jackets.
David and Victoria’s 18-year-old son, Brooklyn, is currently a photography student at Parsons School of Design; we expect he’ll be photographing his parent’s clothing lines soon enough. [Observer]
