The grandchildren of Oscar winner Vivien Leigh, aka Scarlett O’Hara in “Gone with the Wind,” are letting go of some of their famous ancestors most prized possessions.
The auction is scheduled for Sept. 26 at Sotheby’s and is titled “Vivien: The Vivien Leigh Collection,” “Vivien: The Vivien Leigh Collection,” according to the New York Times.
Some of the highlights from the jewelry collection include a mid-19th century bow-shaped diamond brooch; a bejeweled wristwatches from the 1920s and 1940s; and a pearl and diamond necklace and earrings set.
“This is a reference to Vivien’s past, ”David Macdonald, the specialist in charge of the sale, told the Times, referring to a 1920s wristwatch made by Hamilton and Co. in Calcutta. “She was born in India and we think that this was either her mother’s or was given to her by her mother.” [NYT]
