If you want a Jackson Pollock painting, $1.25 million won’t get you far. However, that exact price can get you the influential painter’s former apartment at 46 Carmine Street, located between Bleecker and Bedford streets.
There’s even more history involved with this listing: The four-story building was once owned by America’s third Vice President, Aaron Burr, who’s probably best known for killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel.
Luis D. Ortiz of Douglas Elliman has the listing, which he announced yesterday on an Instagram upload. Reached by phone, he said that 46 was Pollock’s lucky number.
“That’s why he chose to live there,” Ortiz said.
The one-bedroom, one-bathroom spread features 14-foot Tudor-style ceilings with skylights, exposed brick walls and a fireplace. The home, which measures 800 square feet, also has a soaking tub. It’s located on the top floor of the building.
“There’s an air of inspiration when you go into this place,” Ortiz said. — Zachary Kussin
