Retailers are going to crazy lengths to reinvent the high-end shopping experience, but Bloomberg reports that traditional luxury retail is safe–at least for now. According to a new study, rich people (surprise, surprise) prefer to shop in stores where they get treated like royalty as opposed to shopping online, which any pleb can do.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Net-a-Porter and other high-end luxury online retailers aren’t doing well; Net-a-Porter was rumored to be worth about 1 billion pounds (or about $1.5 billion) in 2014. It just means that quite a few of the wealthier class enjoy perks like being greeted by name in a favorite store, receiving phone calls when clothes they might like become available, and getting expert advice from another human about products they are interested in.
And, of course, it’s always nice to be treated well by people you are paying exorbitant amounts of money. Though Oprah may disagree.
