A low point for high culture

Tony-winner Patti LuPone in “Shows for Days”

In this-is-why-we-can’t-watch-nice-things news, Tony-winner Patti LuPone, the Bernie Goetz of the Miss Manners’ set, had it up to here and couldn’t take it anymore with audience rudeness at a recent show.

Hot off a matinee of “Shows for Days” a dark comedy running at Lincoln Center’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, filled with renegade cell phone usage during her performance, the Broadway star snatched a serial texter’s phone during the evening performance — while staying completely in character — according to Page Six.

LuPone has a history of playing the audience hall monitor, most famously in 2009, the theater vigilante berated someone for taking photographs during a “Gypsy” performance.

While the revoked phone was returned its naughty owner by the house manager post-show, no word yet if she has been grounded.
