Calling all eccentrics: The famed Grey Gardens estate at 3 West End Road in East Hampton is back on the rental market. And even though the summer season is officially over, some opportunities are too good to pass up.
Maternity fashion pioneer, Liz Lange, rented the 6,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom mansion for the summer. But now she’s out and the house is available for rent from Sept. 15 through July 31 for $175,000, according to the New York Post.
Naturally, the home is in much better shape than it was back in 1975 when a documentary crew captured the lives of Edith Bouvier Beale – a onetime socialite, amateur singer and sister of John “Black Jack” Bouvier, the father of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis — and her daughter Edie — a former socialite, fashion model and cabaret performer. Both women became recluses in the decaying home.
Originally designed by Joseph Greenleaf Thorpe in 1897, the 1.7-acre estate on Georgica Beach now features a pool and tennis court. Corcoran’s Gary DePersia has the listing.
