Fancy gym in Nantucket will charge a $120,000 initiation fee

Think Equinox is a splurge? The EZIA Athletic Club on Nantucket, slated to open in spring 2017, is accepting membership applications now and if this price tag doesn’t inspire you to exercise, nothing will. The gym will charge a $120,000 initiation fee as well as $5,000 in annual dues. Only 250 families will be granted the privilege of paying that exorbitant fee for use of the club (30 have already signed up at a limited-time offer of $60,000), which offers an Olympic size pool, a whirlpool, private cabanas, four squash courts, a 5,000 square foot gym, salt and mud baths, a business lounge, juice bar, a putting green, a golf simulator as well as a staff nurse and dietitian who “will do blood and DNA analysis, advise on meal planning and supplement strategies, and even adminster IV treatments,” according to the Boston Globe.

But don’t worry, because it really is modest compared to other gym memberships. Isaiah Truyman, the founder and general manager of the club, told Town and Country magazine that since the initiation fees for several other clubs on the island range from $350,000 for The Westmoor Club to $500,000 for the Nantucket Golf Club, “$120,000 it’s actually one of the best deals in this town.”

And for those members who are single, you are allowed to sign a partner up along with you — but under club rules you are only allowed to change the name of your significant other  one time per year. Talk about commitment!
