David Geffen gets his name in lights at Lincoln Center

Hollywood always beats oil.

At least, that’s the case at Lincoln Center right now, where billionaire David Geffen’s substantial gift of $100 million paid for Avery Fischer Hall to be renamed David Geffen Hall last week. But unlike the David Koch theater, right across the plaza, Geffen’s name is illuminated in lights and it will remain there for perpetuity (Koch’s will only stay for 50 years). “Geffen is from Hollywood. It’s like a movie marquee,”as  one source aptly summarized it to Page Six.

This same deal was not offered to Blackstone boss Stephen Schwarzman, who chose instead to donate his $100 million to The New York Public Library (and then subsequently did not show up for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Who has time?).

Maybe Larry David can give them some advice.
