Tomorrow night at Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale there will be rare chance to bid on an unusual and slightly naughty Picasso.
The painting titled, “La Gommeuse” is rare in that it features paintings on both sides of the canvas. It was painted during Picasso’s famed “Blue Period” in 1901, making it all the more desirable.
Even more intriguing, the rear and very raw nude figure was never displayed in public. So this is a special chance to catch a glimpse. The model on the back of the painting is Picasso’s friend Pere Manach, a cabaret performer. An estimate price for the painting has not been made public.
Other highlights include of the upcoming auction include “Paysage Sous un Ciel Mouvement” by Vincent van Gogh, (estimated at $50 million- $70 million), and “Nympheas” by Claude Monet (estimated at $30 million – $50 million).
