Yachts and high-end purses go together like peanut and butter. So what better mashup than a yacht pop-up shop selling Birkins? Last week, Prive Porter, the curators and sellers of brand new, authentic Hermes Birkins, and Van Dutch, a luxury yacht maker, teamed up for the unique sale at the 56th Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The event hoped to tap into “the astronomical wealth of the mega yacht community during boat show week,” Jeff Berk, Prive’s founder, told Forbes reports.

Up for grabs were 30-35 calfskin, crocodile and alligator skin Birkin bags in a variety of sizes. Prices ranged from $15,000 for a calfskin Birkin, to $360,000 for the best of the best: a Braise Shiny Porosus 35cm Crocodile Birkin with 18-karat white gold and diamond hardware (typically reserved for the most elite clients who spend upwards of $2 million a year on the brand). The color “Braise” (think Ferrari red) is the highest demand of all Hermes exotic colors.

“We’re not only chasing the Christie’s record for an auctioned Birkin that recently sold for $221,846 but we’re confident that because our bag is unused (unlike their bag), we’ll break that record-setting price,” Berk said. Nicely played, Berk, nicely played.

The $1.7 million yacht cruised down the intercoastal highway all day, but an appointment was required to board.

The ultimate luxe-package deal — the complete lot of bags along with the actual yacht — was on offer for a whopping $4 million.
