Trying to decide whether to splurge on a Louis Vuitton bag or a Gucci one? Why not first check out how much you can sell it for when you get sick of it in a year or two?
According to a new report from the luxury consignment website, The Real Real, the best-selling brands for resale are (in no particular order):
- Louis Vuitton
In other words, it pays to be French.
The Real Real also offered up some tidbits about which items tend to sell the fastest. For women’s handbags, the top sellers were Chanel’s WOC (wallet-on-a-chain) Crossbody, Céline’s Trio, Gucci’s Soho, Louis Vuitton’s Neverfull and Chloé’s Marcie.
All Gucci items performed extremely well, up 60% in sales from last year (the site credits that to Alessandro Michele’s appointment this year), as did denim, which rose 113% and Fendi products, which rose 52%. Sales dropped for Reed Krakoff, on the other hand, when it was announced that the brand was closing.
Also in the report are the most outrageous (they say “unique”) items sold, like a Chanel basketball and Gucci snorkel fins (#necessary). We guess the good news here is that no matter what crazy designer thing you accidentally-on-purpose bought last year, at least you know there’s always an equally crazy person who is willing to buy it from you.
