Zhang Xin, the billionaire Chinese real estate developer who earlier this year was one of the buyers of the GM Building, has paid $26 million for an Upper East Side townhouse at 45 East 74th Street.

Zhang, the CEO of Beijing-based developer SOHO China and one of the world’s richest women, bought a five-bedroom, 7.5-bathroom 19th century home located between Park and Madison avenues. The property — which Leonardo DiCaprio had also checked out in June – boasts a swimming pool, a waterfall and a sauna.

The deal closed in late October, Town Residential’s Jason Karadus, who had the listing along with his colleagues Brett Miles and Robson Zanetti, told the Wall Street Journal. The townhouse had originally been listed at $33 million about a year ago, and was most recently priced at $30 million, according to the newspaper. The seller was Valerio Morabito, an Italian real estate developer and movie producer who bought the home in 2009 for $10 million and then invested a further $10 million in renovations. Morabito was represented by Brown Harris Stevens’ Paula Del Nunzio. [WSJ]  – Hiten Samtani
