Your next trip from Mumbai to JFK could be the most expensive commercial flight in the world

Etihad Airways — the official airline of the fashion industry — has just expanded their route to include the most expensive flight in the world.

As of Sunday, the airline now flies between Mumbai and New York with an Abu Dhabi stopover. Crucially, one of the aircrafts that will be flying that route is the Airbus A380 – the same plane that holds a super swanky penthouse in the sky named The Residence.

The cost to fly from Mumbai and New York in The Residence? $38,000, and that’s just one-way. If you want to return, that will cost you $76,000. No big deal.

The Residence is an exclusive three-room cabin with a living room, bedroom and en-suite bathroom.

The living room has a 32-inch TV,  a leather sofa and two fold-away dining tables. A hallway leads to the bedroom where a double bed is decked out with designer Italian bed linen. The en-suite has a full-height shower, bathrobes, a magnifying make-up mirror and hairdryer. Guests also have a Savoy-trained butler on hand and bespoke meals will be prepared by an on-board chef.

Meanwhile an economy ticket on the same route would set you back anywhere between $500-$1100 one-way.

According to the Daily Mail, the journey between New York’s JFK International Airport and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport – including the connection in Abu Dhabi – takes anywhere from 19 to 21 hours.

Etihad had previously made waves when they offered a one-way flight from New York to Abu Dhabi for $32,000 for two people.
