On Tuesday, Barnard College held its annual Gala at The Plaza Hotel. The evening was co-hosted by award-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa (Barnard class of ’84), actress Cynthia Nixon (class of ’88) and Barnard College President Debora L. Spar.
The event –and chaired by Nina Rennert Davidson (class of ’95) and Merryl H. Tisch (class of ’77) — included a spirited cocktail reception attended by several celebrities and high-profile individuals, including Martha Stewart, Mitchell Moinian, David Patrick Columbia, Tovah Feldshuh and Lloyd Blankfein.
Cocktails were followed by a sit-down dinner and special awards ceremony for the Milstein family. Honorees Cheryl Glicker Milstein (class of ’82) and her husband, Philip Milstein, were presented with a musical tribute by daughter and honoree Toby Milstein (class of ’14) and Tony award-winning Broadway composer Jeanine Tesori (class of ’83). The Milstein family was honored for “outstanding contribution to Barnard’s state-of-the-art educational center,” which scheduled to open in 2018.
President Debora L. Spar announced a major College fundraising initiative to support the education of exceptional young women, funded by the proceeds from the Barnard College Gala.
