These days even golf carts are a status symbol

Finally there’s a golf cart perfect for all those rich people out putting on the green.

Or, as Mercedes puts it, “While golf has developed into a premium sport with a modern face, golf carts have remained almost unchanged for decades.”

But now Mercedes has teamed up with the Scandinavian manufacturer Garia to make what might be the swankiest of golf carts, the oh-so-catchily named, Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car.

The diminutive vehicle – which has a charming dimpled grille, just like a golf ball – comes with a refrigerator under the bench seat, a stowage tray under the dashboard for golf balls, bottle holders, and hi-fi speakers. An integrated onboard touchpad acts as a control panel, from which golfers can control the headlamps, the windscreen heater, and the wipers, view the remaining range, vehicle speed, current power consumption and parking brake status. As well as check the weather, order refreshments for delivery and view the layout of the golf course and their current position, or if desired activate an electronic score card.

Garia is initially building two drivable examples of the cart. The reactions of the market and potential customers will dictate how they move forward.
