Chocolate scientist insures tastebuds for $1.3M

Along with having the best job in the entire world, one British chocolate scientist has just had her tastebuds insured for £1 million ($1.3 million).

Hayleigh Curtis is part of the Cadbury Innovation team, which is based in the “innovation kitchen” at Cadbury’s chocolate factory in Bournville, Birmingham – rumor has it, that when it rains in the small British village, it smells like chocolate.

The team are the human equivalent of oompa loompas and are responsible for the creation and development of every new chocolate product created by Mondelēz International (owners of Cadbury, Kraft, Hershey) anywhere in the world.

According to The Mirror, from now on Curtis will need to avoid sword swallowing, eating Fugu fish and chilli peppers with a Scoville heat rating of greater than 350,000, which could compromise her taste buds and render her insurance with Lloyd’s of London null and void.

Earlier this year, LLNYC wrote about the tea sommelier who has insured his tastebuds for $1.5 million. [The Mirror]
