Though it isn’t quite as efficient as apparating, J.K. Rowling’s yacht, which she has reportedly put up for sale, ain’t a bad way to travel either.
According to Yacht Harbour, the author purchased the 48-meter yacht in January for almost $29 million from an American family, who named it the Amphitrite. The vessel was built in 2001 by Proteksan Turquoise, and was later sold in 2006 to movie star Johnny Depp, who had it named Vajoliroja and spent almost $8 million on renovating it. Based on the images available, he did a very good job: all of the Edwardian interiors were done by Redman Whiteley and it has five cabins that can accommodate 10 guests (plus a crew of nine). The boat has a maximum speed of 13.5 knots and a cruising speed of 12.5 knots, with a maximum range estimated to be 2,240 nautical miles.
For anyone interested in purchasing a new yacht, Rowling has listed the Amphrite for $20 million. [Yacht Harbour]
