Few things in New York stay the same, but the presence of Bergdorf Goodman’s, stately and elegant on 5th Avenue, is one of the few constants that New Yorkers can rely on.
So it was a bit of a shock when the iconic store announced that it would be revamping its entire main floor for the first time in 30 years. Would the renovations maintain the beauty of the space? Would they overwhelm it?
Well this week the store finally unveiled its new main floor, and we are relieved to report that it is just as lovely –if not more so — than it was before. The interior designs were a collaboration between Linda Fargo, Bergdorf Goodman’s Senior Vice President and Women’s Fashion Director, design consultant R. Douglas Gellenbeck, and the firm Michael Neumann Architecture LLC, and were done in the French Moderne style, updating the existing space without removing any of the original features. More lighting fixtures were added, as well as more space for a jewelry salon and increased space for accessories from designers like Hermès, Chanel, Goyard and Verdura.
The store threw a glamorous party to celebrate the renovations yesterday — and here are Instagram shots to prove it.
