Fashion designer Gemma Kahng sells Police Building pad

Fashion designer Gemma Kahng, who in the 1990s dressed the likes of Sharon Stone and Madonna, has sold her Police Building duplex for $2.9 million – slightly less than its $3.2 million asking price, city records show.

The two-bedroom spread at the landmarked 240 Centre Street, the former headquarters of the NYPD, totals 1,400 square feet. It comes with two-and-a-half bathrooms, double-height ceilings, oversized windows, stainless steel countertops, a mahogany staircase, a crystal chandelier, ceiling fans which the listing describes as “charming”, and a very original bathtub.

It’s not clear when Kahng bought the apartment, but she’s lived there since at least the early 90s according to city property records. The building was the NYPD’s headquarters up until 1973, and then in 1988 was converted into luxury apartments. Back in March, LLNYC toured the building’s penthouse.

Herbert Chou of Warburg Realty had the listing.
