Last week, Remi Gangarossa of Chicago paid $37,000 for a lock of Marilyn Monroe’s hair. And he is not apologizing.
“I’m a pretty big saver,” the “financial professional” told CNBC. “Every so often there are things in this world that are impossible to come by. I saw an opportunity to be a part of Marilyn Monroe legacy.”
Julien’s Auctions, which handled the sale, had only expected the locks to sell for a few thousand dollars, but obviously, they underestimated how much people love this candle in the wind.
In addition to shelling out money for the actual hair, Gangarossa also had to pay for his flight to LA so he could bid at the special auction. “I flew out there specifically with one mission…walk out of this auction house with her hair.”
Yes, it may sound crazy, but apparently he has already received several offers from interested buyers who want to buy the hair from him. His response? “Absolutely not,” he said. “It’s an interesting thing to know my investment was worth it, but it’s not for sale.” [CNBC]
