The Financial District isn’t known for its bar scene – although the neighborhoods food and drink options are set to seriously improve. Nevertheless, one neighborhood bar just received a coveted accolade.

The Dead Rabbit, at 30 Water Street, was just named #1 on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2016 by Drinks International, a beverage publication.

The three-story old school cocktail saloon is no stranger to the limelight. In 2015, it was also named “World’s Best Bar” at Tales of the Cocktail. The new award recognizes “excellence in bar programs around the world.”

Hundreds of bars were nominated and were judged by an academy of more than 400 experts and the awards were announced at a gala ceremony in London at Christ Church Spitalfields, a 300-year-old Baroque church.

“We are truly honored to be awarded first place,” Sean Muldoon, co-founder and managing partner of the Dead Rabbit. “These awards are some of the most important on the planet and reflect the judgment of our peers and industry luminaries. We couldn’t be prouder to make it to the top and salute all of the nominees who are doing great work around the world.”

The awards, which rank bars from 1 to 50, are the result of a survey of an academy of experts from the trade, comprised of top bartenders, media members and industry authorities, according to a press release.
