This is one way to make back all that lost Facebook money. According to Curbed, the Winklevoss twins — forever immortalized in David Fincher’s “The Social Network” as the “Winklevii” — have listed a penthouse at 20 Greene Street believed to be theirs on the rental market for $100,000-a-month.
The apartment was purchased in 2014 for $14.5 million under an LLC called Casterlirock Holdings, which happened to share a business address with the Winklevii’s Bitcoin fund Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust. Coincidence? Probably not. The apartment was previously owned by real estate developer Justin Ehrlich.
Looking at StreetEasy, it appears that the Winklevii tried to sell the apartment in February this year for $18 million, dropping the price down to $16 million in April and then taking it off the market completely in July.
According to the listing, the unit has 4,300 square feet, three bedrooms, a wrap-around terrace and a rooftop, 14-foot ceilings and a living room with a projector screen. We also imagine that all of the furnishings come in pairs, so neither of the twins gets jealous of the other. [Curbed]
