What better way to raise money for the arts than a gala held on Halloween? That was the thinking behind this year’s Harlem School of the Arts gala, which happened Monday night at the Plaza.
The masquerade ball was held in the the Grand Ballroom and raised $1 million for the famous arts school. Guests enjoyed performances from current students and alumni, as well as a live auction.
Notable guests of the event included actor Sanaa Lathan, who received the Visionary Artist Award; producer/director Stan Lathan, who received the Visionary Artist Award; singer/songwriter and pianist Michael Feinstein, who received the Dorothy Maynor Award; author and executive director at Morgan Stanley Sandra L. Richards, who received the Betty Allen Lifetime Achievement Award; anchor for NBC 4 David Ushery, who was the master of ceremony, and auctioneer CK Swett who led the live auction.
