The news of Trump’s election has had all kinds of consequences: protests in the streets, Facebook rants and, unsurprisingly – New York City therapists have gotten a whole lot busier.

According to the New York Post, Dr. Chloe Carmichael, a clinical psychologist and stress management expert based in Manhattan, was already helping her clients navigate their emotions surrounding the election’s results by 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

But it wasn’t just Carmichael’s existing patients who needed someone to vent to, “We did get a couple of calls from new clients who want to come in because they’re disappointed, very sad or honestly even really happy,” Carmichael told the Post.

Carmichael said it will take at least a week for people to get to the acceptance stage of their grief regarding the election, but be warned, relapses and bouts of high anxiety will resume as Trump’s inauguration day nears.

She encouraged those who feel helpless and sad to “counteract those feelings” by doing good. LLNYC suggests taking a look at this list, and donating to your favorite cause. [NYP]
