The Upper East Side was the most in-demand Manhattan neighborhood with renters last week, continuing to alternate the top spot with its Uptown counterpart, the Upper West Side.
Chelsea was a close second, followed by West Village, the Upper West Side and Kips Bay, according to data from apartment listings website Zumper. Renters asked brokers the most about one-bedroom apartments, making up 42 percent of the inquiries. And their median rent inquiry: $2,235 a month. Right behind were two-bedrooms, with 39 percent and $2,950. Demand has been slipping for studios, with 14 percent and $1,300. It was but two weeks ago that studios held the top spot.
“The median inquiry price for studios and one-bedrooms dropped since most searches went after units in the Upper East Side, which is still more affordable than many other neighborhoods,” Zumper COO Taylor Glass-Moore told The Real Deal. “But the price remained stable for two- and three-bedrooms where searches covered more neighborhoods.”
