Forget changing your Facebook status; Hong Kong billionaire Joseph Lau has taken out full-page advertisements in his local newspapers to let the world know that he has broken up with his long-time girlfriend, Yvonne Lui. Whatever cures your broken heart, buddy.
In his letter, Lau says the ads are a “response to the untrue reports in the media.” He claims that he and Lui broke up in 2014 and since then have “no relationship of any kind except that she is the mother of my two infant children,” which seems kind of harsh. He goes on to say that when he and Lui were together, he gave her gifts that exceeded HK $2 billion (about $260 million) and that “she can maintain a luxurious lifestyle by herself without my financial support.”

Somewhat surprising considering that Lau himself probably wouldn’t last two days on only $260 million. Forbes ranked him the 65th richest man in the world with a net worth of $12.5 billion and he is known for his lavish spending. Last year, he made headlines when he bought the most expensive diamond in the world for his seven-year-old daughter, Josephine, for $48.5 million, and he is also rumored to have one of the best wine collections in the world with 10,000 bottles.
Of course, it’s not all fun and games in Lau’s world; in 2014, not only did he break up with Lui, he was also found guilty of money laundering and corruption in Macau over a land deal, and was sentenced to five years in prison. So far, he has avoided his fate by not returning to the gambling mecca. [Telegraph]
