De Blasio does not care about the fates of Gucci or Tiffany

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio is none-too-concerned about the fates of upscale stores on Fifth Avenue that have been adversely affected by the crowds and security surrounding Trump Tower.

“I will not tell you that Gucci and Tiffany are my central concerns in life, but I will say the traffic situation has become a very real problem,” he told reporters yesterday after he met with President-elect Trump in Trump Tower.

We understand the spirit of what he meant, of course, but on the other hand, retailers on Fifth rely on tourists and locals to spend money in their stores to pay their super high rents. The slump caused by the craziness around the Tower is hitting the stores particularly hard now, since it is so close to the holiday season.

de Blasio did promise reporters that he would be holding a press conference with Police Commissioner James O’Neill to discuss the traffic problems in the area on Friday. Hopefully, they will be able to figure out a solution that works for everyone — even Gucci and Tiffany.
