Party planner to the stars, David Monn, found himself the subject of a party for once at a glamorous cocktail party thrown in his honor at the New York Public Library on Monday night. Over 600 guests gathered to celebrate Monn’s new book called, appropriately, “The Art of Celebrating.”
The evening was an emotional one for Monn, who had staged his very first event in New York in the library. In his speech, he thanked the late Bill Cunningham, who he said helped launch his career by running one of his events in the Sunday pages of the Times.
As expected, Monday’s event was expertly planned and guests enjoyed food catered by Sonnier and Castle under a canopy of lights woven into 16 potted trees. After Monn gave his speech, vocalist Lisa Fischer and jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut serenaded the crowd from the candlelit staircase.
LLNYC cover star Martha Stewart was spotted at the event, snapping photos on her iPhone of all the food options (perhaps taking inspiration for her next dinner party). Other notable guests included Gayfryd Steinberg, Louise Grunwald, Nina Griscom, Linda Fargo, Pattie Harris, Caryn Zucker, Ray Kelly, Alex Papachristidis, Gayle King, Don Lemon, Rachel Hovnanian, Priscilla Ratazzi, Daryl Roth, Victoria Hagan, Carol Mack, Maria Bartirimo, Ellen & Bill Taubman, Robert Zimmerman, Michael Boodro, Jennifer Creel, Simon Doonan, Jamie Tisch, Josie & Ken Natori, Richard David Story, Cece Cord, Jamee & Peter Gregory, and many members of the Tisch family including Lizzie, Alice & Tom, Jamie, Meryl, and Andrew & Ann.
