Rich people can shell out big bucks to hang with Trump during the inauguration

Not sure what your plans are for January 17-20th? Well if you’re willing to shell out a couple of hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of dollars, you can spend the time hanging out in President-elect Donald Trump’s inner circle. The Presidential Inaugural Committee released its final benefits package for the inauguration, and it provides a pretty incredible opportunity for the richest people in the country to literally buy access to our new president.

Packages start at a pitiful $25,000 and go up to $1,000,000 plus. Major donors get things like tickets to a “leadership luncheon” with members of the cabinet and House and Senate; an “intimate” dinner with Mike Pence and his wife; a “ladies luncheon” with the ladies of the first families; an “entertainment-filled welcome reception” and a dinner in DC with “special appearances” by Trump and his family.

According to the Times, the Trump campaign is hoping to raise a record of $65 million to $75 million to pay for the election events that are happening around the inauguration.

And don’t worry, interested millionaires and billionaires who weren’t in favor of Trump when he was running — your money is welcome too.

“People who have not participated in this presidential campaign or were not motivated by its politics are motivated about this tribute to democracy,” the head of the inauguration committee told the Times, “and to showing the world that we can argue and debate, but on Nov. 9, we move forward as one country.” That is, rich people can all move forward together. What a nice thought.

The one thing your election package doesn’t buy, though, is hotel accommodation for the four nights. But thankfully we know a nice, new hotel where you can stay. [NYT]
