Coldplay lead guitarist nabs second Astor Place condo

Coldplay lead guitarist Jonny Buckland is doubling down in Greenwich Village; the musician just bought a second apartment at 21 Astor Place for $5.1 million, city records show.

The sixth-floor apartment has two bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. According to its listing, the 2,034-square-foot pad comes with 14-foot ceilings, oversized windows, a large corner living room, a chef’s kitchen, remote control shades and blinds and wide plank white oak floors. It previously belonged to jewelry designer Charles De Viel Castel.

Buckland also owns the unit next door, which he bought for $3.4 million in 2008. Our real estate crystal ball predicts expansions in his future.

Meanwhile, Buckland’s bandmate Chris Martin has had no luck parting with the Tribeca penthouse he owns with his ex, Gwyneth Paltrow. The pad, which was last listed for a little under $13 million, seems to have been taken off the market.

Dina Lewis and Melanie Lazenby of Douglas Elliman had the listing.
