Every year, the Queen hands out awards to the most esteemed citizens of the British Empire called — appropriately — the New Year’s Honors. Among this year’s winners are a few of our favorite Brits, including: Anna Wintour of Vogue, Victoria Beckham of Posh Spice and her own fashion label, Ray Davies of the band the Kinks, opera singer Bryn Terfel, runner Mo Farah, actor Mark Rylance and tennis player extraordinaire Andy Murray.
There are various levels of honors that people can receive from the New Year’s Honors. The most prestigious are knighthoods and damehoods, which Wintour, Farah, Davies, Terfel and Murray all received. Those honors are followed by CBE (Commander of the British Empire), OBE (Officer of the British Empire) and MBE (Member of the British Empire).
Confusing? Yes. But we just hope that Wintour makes all the Vogue staffers call her Dame Wintour from now on. The Dame wears Prada!
