Bartender sues Bagatelle for saying he dressed “like a gay porn star”

A bartender at the Meatpacking District’s high-priced, low-class bunch spot Bagatelle is suing the restaurant for discrimination, claiming his manager wrote him up for dressing “like a gay porn star.”

Bartender Terrance McCleveland said the incident occurred in December 2015 when he angered his manager at Bagatelle by going over his head and asking an owner at the clubby restaurant to change his schedule, according to the NY Daily News.

McCleveland said the manager “retaliated” by filing a misconduct report — which was filed with McCleveland’s lawsuit — that said the “nature of the violation” was that McCleveland “look [sic] like a faggot.”

The NY Daily News report that the manager wrote, “(McCleveland) wears Barbie T-shirt behind the bar. Terrance looked like a gay porn star.”

McCleveland said the manager was suspended for a week. “They didn’t take it as seriously as I did,” he said at a news conference near City Hall where his lawyer said McCleveland was asking for more than $1 million in damages. [NY Daily News]
