For golfers who live in the city, the ability to stroll over to the club from your weekend Hamptons home — as opposed to driving out on the Long Island Expressway or schlepping your clubs on the LIRR [shudder] — has immense appeal.
But what if that course was your very own? A home on the market for $50 million at 939 Scuttle Hole Road in Bridgehampton, known as Three Ponds Farm, is perhaps the trophy house of golfers’ dreams: It offers a USGA-rated 18-hole private golf course designed by golf course architect Rees Jones.
According to Tim Davis of The Corcoran Group, who has the listing, the 22,000-square-foot European-style estate was built by the late owner Edward S. Gordon about 20 years ago. Gordon was the founder of one of the largest real estate service companies in the metropolitan area and known for his negotiating skills, for example his selling of a 44-story skyscraper at the height of the 1970s financial crisis.
According to his obituary in the New York Times in 2000, Gordon was not initially a golfer but became interested in the game while helping develop the Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton. He went on to build his own course and used it to help complete deals, the obit noted.

A private golf course is not in the cards for every player, though. Fortunately there are other listings in the Hamptons located on or very near golf courses, such as 379 Ocean Road in Bridgehampton, which is next door to Bridgehampton Golf Club. The home, listed for $18.5 million, is situated to maximize views of protected land to the east, and the side bordering the golf course is lined with hedges. “The extensive landscaping offers the highest level of privacy possible,” said Michael Cantwell, chief marketing officer for Bespoke Real Estate.
This is a newly constructed home with seven bedrooms and 11-and-a-half baths. The home is 9,100 square feet on 2.5 acres, offering the largest acreage available at this price, with a pool and tennis court, Cantwell said.
Bespoke Real Estate represents other properties on the street, 950 and 748 Ocean Road, as well as 300 Sagaponack Road, all of which are within walking or biking distance of the golf club.
A property located at 455 Ocean Road, two doors south of 379 Ocean Road, recently sold for over $23 million, Cantwell said. It has a chipping green and sand wedge on the property, intended for owners who can’t get enough golf.
